The Town veterans bowed out of the Masters Grand Final at the semi-final stage, losing to eventual winners Liverpool on penalties.

The Blues beat Leeds in the first round of the eight-team knock-out tournament, the goals coming from Simon Milton (2), Bontcho Guentchev and Trevor Putney.

The semi-final saw Town come up against a Liverpool side without John Wark, injured and acting as the Reds' manager.

The Blues came from behind to lead 4-3 with less than a minute to go after goals from Alan Kennedy (OG), Neil Woods, Trevor Putney and Paul Mason.

However, Kennedy battled his way to an equaliser and the game went to a sudden death penalty shoot-out.

Ian Atkins scored his kick, but Mark Brennan hit his against the post and Liverpool went through to the final where they beat Newcastle United.

Other former Town players involved in the tournament were Mike Salmon and Mark Stuart, both in action for Charlton.
