Town chairman David Sheepshanks says the club have had a good response from employees to their paycut scheme. Town have asked all employees to take a drop in wages now with the money coming back to them in the summer when Town will either have won promotion or sold star players.

Sheepshanks says that the scheme has received "fantastic response" from staff, although TWTD understands that not all of the players were entirely impressed at the suggestion they should take a 10% drop in pay this season.

All Town employees earning over £90,000-a-year would see a drop of 10% as part of the voluntary scheme while those below will temporarily lose 2%.

The Town chairman says the club have looked at numerous ways of making up the shortfall caused by the drop into the First Division: "We have looked for multiple solutions, all of which add up to cover our shortfall and stabilise our finances.

"There is more to do but we are a long way down the road. A very tight situation is now under control. Now it is our job to concentrate on what we do on the field.

"We have removed the pressure of needing to sell players, hopefully even in January when the transfer window opens again, although I cannot rule that out. Now George Burley can work with a settled squad.

"A very large percentage of the staff have supported the scheme. A few didn't, but that is a private matter and I entirely respect their decision which will be kept totally confidential."
