Tractor Girls Host Crawley Wasps
Sunday, 2nd Oct 2022 09:23

Ipswich Town Women host Crawley Wasps at the AGL Arena in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division this afternoon (KO 2pm).

The Blues, who are currently sixth in the table, will be looking to maintain their winning form having won their last three matches, including last week’s 7-0 FAWNL Cup hammering of QPR.

Blues forward Maddie Biggs feels the manner of that victory and the goals - she opened her account for the season with the fourth - have given the squad belief after a disappointing start to the campaign.

“We take huge confidence,” she said. “The last few games we’ve not played how we wanted to play and presented what we’ve been working on in training since pre-season, so to get those goals and just have that confidence on the pitch will really help us on Sunday. It’s really given us a big boost.”

Crawley are currently bottom of the league having taken only two points from their four matches and are managerless at present.

The Blues beat Crawley three times last season, 1-0 and 4-0 at home in the league and FA Cup and 2-0 away having also been ahead by the same scoreline when the first staging of that match was abandoned due to monsoon conditions.

“We’ve faced them a few times, not just last season but seasons before,” Biggs added. “They’re a really physical side, I think they give us a good test but I feel that we thrive off of physicality in games sometimes and we make it a real fight and give it a good battle.”

Meanwhile, recent signing Freya Godfrey has been named in the England U19s squad for their UEFA European Women's U19 Championship qualifiers against Denmark, Slovakia and Slovenia this month and as a result with miss Town’s game at Oxford United next Sunday.
