Monday, 30th Jan 2023 19:25

A home tie against Sheffield Wednesday or Fleetwood awaits the winners of Town's fourth round FA Cup replay at Burnley.

The Owls and Cod Army, who signed former Blues striker Jack Marriott from Peterborough today, drew 1-1 at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Wednesday are second in League One, four points ahead of Town with a game in hand, while Fleetwood are 17th.

They will meet again in a replay at the Highbury Stadium in just over a week's time with Town similarly travelling to Turf Moor to take on the Clarets.

The Blues' only FA Cup meeting with the Owls was at the fifth round stage in 1985 when Town won 3-2 at Portman Road when George Burley, Romeo Zondervan and Alan Sunderland were the scorers.

Town, who were last in the fifth round in 2007, have never faced Fleetwood in the competition.

Fifth round matches will played in the midweek commencing Monday 27th February.

There are still KVY and Jackson to fit in there and still not tire the first 11!

Now I have evidence, they have a Desso GrassMaster pitch so It will be better than ours until next year.

If you think we have any chance to win the cup, you aren't just dreaming, you're in cloud-cuckoo-land. That said, good draw. Burnley likely to play their strongest side or close to it in the replay - promotion is all but guaranteed for them and they would love to make a really strong cup run too, some of their fans probably feel like they have one foot in the quarter final already with two home games against lower league opponents being the only hurdles. Very tough game but not unwinnable of course.

You know this has got two teams challenging for promotion against each other for the FA Cup 1/4 finals as well.

Why is this round being played mid-week?

It's being played mid week to ease fixture congestion for teams in europe. It's common place for pretty much every other major European cup so wouldn't be surprised if it happened more and more going forward.

Underwhelmed by the draw tbh. Looked like we could have one of the Manchester teams at one point. Although will be very difficult to beat Burnley away in any case.

Does anyone get the feeling that Sheffield Wednesday may be a thorn in our side (league and cup) this year?

Everyone keeps referring to our weakened Team. Well apart from Hdlaky, who was arguably our best player, Leigh who had a great game and Keogh, it was pretty much our starting eleven. It's all about a strong Squad and we are now able to permutate our Bench and still have a really strong Team on the pitch.
Fancy us for an upset at Turf Moor!
