McGreal Faces Lay-Off
McGreal Faces Lay-Off
Wednesday, 11th Dec 2002 11:22

Town defender John McGreal looks like he will be on the sidelines for some while after picking up a knee injury during Town's 1-1 draw at Brighton. The Liverpool-born defender was injured in a challenge early on during the first half.

McGreal could have sustained ligament damage which will make him a long-term loss. The 30-year-old joins fellow defenders Chris Makin and Mark Venus on the sidelines, although both those players are close to a return.

However, it looks as if Matt Holland, praised as Town's best player at the Withdean by Joe Royle, will continue in the three-man defence, a position he has rarely occupied since playing his first few games for the Blues there after his transfer from Bournemouth back in 1997.

That could be good news for Tommy Miller, perhaps the most similar midfield player to Holland at the club, who is likely to step into the midfield if he gets over his tendinitis problem.

Royle indicated that Miller would have started last weekend's match against Rotherham had he been fit after an excellent display against Liverpool.
