Everton's Simms on Town's List
Wednesday, 14th Jun 2023 13:06

Everton striker Ellis Simms is on the Blues’ list of potential summer recruits.

The Sun is reporting that Town have made a £3.5 million offer for the 22-year-old frontman but, while we understand Simms is among those on the Blues’ list as they look to add to their striking options over the summer, that overstates the position and the quoted fee is well in excess of the figure the former Sunderland loanee is likely to fetch.

Simms, who is also believed to be interesting other clubs, joined the Toffeemen at 16 having spent time with Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City as a schoolboy.

The 6ft 3in tall frontman joined Blackpool on loan in January 2021, then a year later moved to Hearts in Scotland for the second half of the following season.

The Oldham-born striker signed for Sunderland on loan last season and made 14 starts and three sub appearances, scoring seven times, before being recalled at the turn of the year.

For his parent club, Simms has made three starts and nine sub appearances - all in the Premier League - scoring once, in March’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

A new number nine - or perhaps two - is likely to be well up manager Kieran McKenna’s summer wishlist with loanee George Hirst having returned to his parent club Leicester at the end of the season.

Town are also again linked with a loan move for Crystal Palace wideman Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who was previously interesting the Blues ahead of the January window, however, we understand no move is imminent.

Palace are believed to want to keep hold of the 20-year-old, who spent last season with Charlton, for pre-season before allowing him to go out elsewhere.

Southwark-born Rak-Sakyi began his youth career with Chelsea before moving on to the Eagles.

Rak-Sakyi, who is contracted to Palace until 2025, has made 44 starts and five substitute appearances for the Addicks, scoring 15 times, including the South Londoners’ first in the 4-4 draw with Town in October.

The summer transfer window officially opened today and runs until 11pm on Friday 1st September.

My Sunderland fan friends says his not worth 3.5 million, can't jump, can't header, and first touch is terrible so I'll give that a no thank you

Town's best deals are done on the quiet. Rumours mean nothing. We came up trumps in January so I happy to just wait and see when the deals are officially announced.

Made Chelsea's €38M defender Koulibaly look pedestrian when he scored against them last season.

Its not about taking it seriously, its the fun of the speculation. The names, the media speculation. Then finding we sign someone completely different. I love all this rumour

If this is true then it could be the best news of the summer, reel him in Ashton.

If you think of the players that Ashton/KMc have signed, Clarke, Davis, Broadhead, Hirst, they were all in the 20 to 25 age bracket and on the fringes of Prem clubs' first teams. Simms fits that profile. His advantage over Hirst is that he has successful Championship experience. However, I suspect that Hirst is still first choice as he played well for us in the second half of last season and we tried to sign him last summer.

Spreading rumours that we are going for Simms might be just a negotiating tactic to get Leicester to be realistic on the Hirst price!

I would'nt give up on Hirst just yet, the window has only just opened. Although I agree we should'nt be messed around. Get them in as quickly as possible.

Would be a great signing IMHO. And Simms is easily worth £3.5m, based on age, potential and the games I've seen him play in. Very fast, mobile, skilfull. Can play as a lone front man, good receiving the ball and running at defenders.

He made a massive difference to a relatively poor Blackpool team (Ipswich whipped them 4-0 when we were rubbish) getting them promoted from League One and causing more problems than Hirst did for us last year - and I'm a big fan of Hirst.

It's probably paper nonsense, but I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for both Hirst and Simms as options next year.

A Hearts fan friend of mine thinks he is an excellent player who would likely score a bucketload in the Championship.

I hear town have been linked with stowupland falcons Winger Jack Y, he is a great dribbler but injuries hampered his season. According to Fabrizio Romano, "he was a talented youngster who never reached his potential a bit like Dean Bowditch."
His stats are as follows Played 18, scored 1 and 1 assist, these stats don't lie.
Hopefully they can find out the issue with his glass ankle so his career can progress!!

dirtydingusmagee -Not really sure what you were trying to say but he also told me keep Broadhead free of injuries and he'll score goals and is a very good player. Trust me he knows a lot about football and has seen this guy several times at Sunderland and has his own views on him. He might have changed I'm only saying what someone else thought of him when he actually played for Sunderland. Everyone is entitle to their own views and comments but I know Ashton and McKenna are no mugs and totally trust their buying of players. They've brought well so far and may it continue.

George Hirst over Ellis Simms every time for me - The main stumbling block is whether Leicester will be willing to sell a very skilful and powerful Hirst to a championship rival team.
