El Mizouni Returns to Orient On Loan
Wednesday, 5th Jul 2023 18:49

Midfielder Idris El Mizouni has rejoined Leyton Orient on loan for the 2023/24 season.

As previously reported, a number of clubs in League One, including Derby, Wycombe and Charlton as well as the O’s, and some in the Championship, among them Watford and Plymouth, were keen on the Tunisia international.

Speaking on Saturday, manager Kieran McKenna said El Mizouni had spoken to a number of sides and was considering where he would spend the season.

And, having spent a very successful spell at Brisbane Road last season, in which he helped the O’s to the League Two title, was named Players’ and Manager’s Player of the Year and included in the EFL League Two Team of the Season, the Paris-born schemer has opted to return for a second campaign.

“Last season was an unbelievable season. I know the Gaffer and I know the players, it was an easy decision for me to come back,” El Mizouni told the O’s club site.

“I trust the gaffer [Richie Wellens] and he trusts me, he is a big part of why I came back here. The success we had last season makes us more hungry this year. We want to play higher again and again. We can't wait for a season in League One.

“I had [Darren] Pratley next to me last season and the gaffer was a centre-mid, so I've taken a lot of information from those two and I think that I improved a lot last season.

“League One will be harder this season, with bigger teams and bigger crowds, but there will be more teams trying to play football, which is when I think we played best last season.”

Town have an option to recall El Mizouni, who is contracted to the Blues until next summer with the club having an option for a further season, in January.

In addition to last season's spell at Orient, El Mizouni has previously had two loan spells at Cambridge United and one at Grimsby.

While a good move for him, personally think we,should have sold him. Not bcse I dislike him as a player, but simply, I can't see him getting anywhere near our team, with the midfielders we have here now. And while he's unlikely to be on big wages here, we are still having to pay a share of his wage while on loan. And if that's not going to be of any benefit to us in the future, seems to be a waste of our money. Would be happy to be proved wrong and him to come back and get into the side. But this is his 4th loan now, so seems unlikely.

Phil twtd. Have they changed the loan rules this season then? Bcse up until now, its not been allowed to recall a player on a season long loan? Other than to sell the player, or discuss a new, contract?

Best news all round. A win win situation for all concerned especially with the recall option just in case we do lose a few in that position due to injury and going to a set up where he knows the system and will get plenty of minutes.

Won't see him in a town shirt ever again think he will sign permanently at the end of the season

Whether he manages to get into the town team or not we will see. But if not a season playing league one will probably increase his value over what we would get as a league two player

Disappointing, Edris is ahead of Humphreys, Ball, and maybe Evans. I'd have loaned Humphreys instead. Anyway, relieved we aren't selling, hope he can repeat last season's improvement trajectory, and push for a first team place in 24/25.

So, if Orient get promoted to the Second Division does he go back on loan for the 2024/25 season ?

Grow our own. Please explain how he's ahead of Evans, humphries or ball? Evans who was outlr best midfielder until he got injured last season. Humphries, who played several games in our 1st team last season. And ball, who, if not for injury would no doubt have played more games. All while idris was playing in lge2.

Dylan vente is the striker we should look at and forget the over priced simms. Scored 21 goals and 6 assists in the Dutch 2nd division in a average team. 24 years old. 6ft scores with both feet and his head.

Makes sense, especially with the January recall option. The club will keep a close eye on him. Better to have one if our own playing regular football than warming our bench. I believe we have a contract extension clause so could cash in anyway. I agree, I think he's likely to end up signing permanently for LO eventually, but let's keep improving him meantime.

Good move, and given that he was supposed to be signing for pretty much everyone else, just goes to show the chasm between the crap thats being written in the football online press and the truth.

Bazza8564. While I'd agree there's often a lot of crap written on media sites, and in the press, ithink its notctve case here. He has spoken to several clubs before returning to Orient. Personally think he'd have been better off going to Derby. Tho I understand his reasoning for going to Orient, think myself, going to a team that will be among the favourites for promotion, would be better than going to a team who may struggle in lge1. But as I say, thst just my personal view. As long as hes happy, and playing games tho, thats good for him. Do think we should have sold him tho. Not bcse I dislike him as a player. Just that don't see him getting anywhere near our 1st team. Unless we get relegated, in which case he might. But while we in championship or above, can't see it. And trust me, I'd love to be proved wrong on that one.

I think it's a great move for him and the club. We know it can take players a while to settle and show their best qualities so he's going back to a team he was successful with and where he thinks he can improve further. Morsy, Ball, Luongo and Evans aren't getting any younger so who knows what will happen next season and what league itfc will be in. Good luck to him
