Ladapo in Team of the Week
Monday, 4th Sep 2023 14:20

Blues striker Freddie Ladapo has been named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week for his display in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Cardiff City at Portman Road.

Ladapo came off the bench in the 36th minute and netted two second-half goals as Town came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, the first time they had done so at Portman Road since beating Plymouth Argyle by the same scoreline in September 2004.

Town last came from two behind anywhere was when they beat Barnsley 5-3 at Oakwell in December 2011.

This week’s manager of the select XI is former Town captain and coach Tony Mowbray, along with six of his Sunderland players, while ex-Blues loan keeper Asmir Begovic, now with QPR, and one-time striker Will Keane, who joined Preston in the summer, are also included.

Well done Freddie and also Will Keane. Will would have done so much more for town under KM, but that is history.

Slow start to the season but Freddie looked good in mid week and took that on again against much better opposition on Saturday; not just the goals but overall play was so good/positive....mind you he looked like he was blowing with 10 to go! So pleased for him; one of the good guys and becoming a better player under McKenna.

As for Hirst, he was always a concern on injury front and whilst Intl break has come at a good time, Saturday shows that McKenna wants a physical presence up top, esp early in games. There is still time to get a back up to Freddie (as might be required) and without any sentimentality, Connor Wickham would be an option; though it would mean giving up the last squad place currently allocated, provisionally, to Tuanzebe/Defender and compromising plans for Dane Scarlett. A bit like Hirst, no one knows if Wickham can get through a whole season, but we would not need that, and his finishing has never been in question. Something to consider now before all the half decent free agents get snapped up.

I personally feel Wickham is now yesterdays news. I’d hate us to give up a squad place to him. We need an experienced CB. Just gotta hope this fella on trial here is the one and free of injury ( and to stay that way), coz there’s no one else on the horizon …

fingers crossed this is a huge confidence boost for him and he really raises his game. sometimes that's all that's needed, a few goals and this great news!

Yes i feel Freedie is best used as an impact player. At the moment scoring goals is not our problem it's conceding them. We always look like conceding when teams get in our last third. Harry Clarke looked like a pub player Saturday people that know him tell me that he's carrying a injury if that's the case he shouldn't be playing. I expect Williams to come in at right back next game. Centre back with pace is required and possibly a midfielder with the same. Morsy has been magnificent this season but Luongo is finding the championship much more difficult.

We’ve a pretty fair sprinkling of talent ,and KM and Co are getting them really fit and full of stamina to see out each game with the sort of energy many will find difficult to match .
Together they’re also getting the very best out of each individual ,capitalising on strengths etc and FL has been ,and is ,able to prove many wrong .
The ITFC jigsaw is proving attractive and incredibly varied , presenting a challenge for all the current opposition .
Youth ,strength ,physicality ,experience and guile are coming along well !
