Former Town manager George Burley has revealed that he was in the running for the job of Scotland manager prior to the appointment of Berti Vogts. Burley says he was approached by the Scottish Football Association but at the time was keen to remain with the Blues.

Burley, relieved of his position at Town in October, was rumoured to be an SFA target at the time but until now there has been no confirmation that the ex-Town man was a serious contender.

The former Blues' boss says: “I was never actually offered the job, but there is no doubt it was in the balance before Berti took it on.

“At that time I was happy at Ipswich and had no thoughts or ambitions towards going somewhere else.”

Burley is currently being linked with the vacant position of Republic of Ireland manager.
