On trial Town youngster Robert Dickinson is reported to have impressed for Rotherham reserves last night at Oldham in a game which ended 3-3. The 19-year-old has been told that he will not be offered a new contract when his current one expires at the end of the season.

Dickinson played 70 minutes for the Millers at Boundary Park last night and hopes his trial will lead to a permanent switch.

Ian Smith, Town's Assistant Director of Academy, told the club site that he feels Dickinson will benefit from a move to a smaller club: "Robert's got bags of ability but maybe he's one who needs to step down to come back up again - a bit like Tommy Miller did.

"He's a bit on the small side and needs to develop physically as well.

Smith expects Dickinson to be the first of a number of youngsters leaving the club before the end of the season: "A few of the lads now are coming to the end of their three year scholarships and decisions are being made. It's a shame when they are not taken on and we do as much as we can to help the boys find another club."

Last summer Academy youngster Alan Connell was released and joined Bournemouth while the Blues have also made defender Erdem Artun available on a free transfer.
