Edwards Returns From Oxford Loan
Monday, 8th Jan 2024 14:45

Blues winger Kyle Edwards has returned to Town having had his loan spell with League One Oxford United cut short.

Edwards made four starts and two sub appearances for the U’s, scoring twice, but hasn’t featured since November due to a hamstring injury for which he is still undergoing rehabilitation.

The 25-year-old, who was due to remain at the Kassam Stadium until the end of the season, is out of contract with Town at the end of the season having moved to Portman Road after leaving West Brom in the summer of 2021.

Edwards didn’t appear for the Blues before departing for Oxford in the summer, so would be able to move elsewhere on loan during this window if his fitness allows.

Edwards sent off at Cambridge (perhaps harshly) and is an impact sub in League One - GIVE HIM A CHANCE!

Hutchinson starts several games, multiple goals including winner against Southampton and 1v1 vs Middlesbrough, consistently jinks past quality Championship players - BENCH THE MAN IT'S NOT RIGHT FOR TOWN THAT HE PLAYS!

With churchmans on this, unreal comments

Gforce I think we'd only put in bid in for Stansfield if KM sees him as a potential Premier League player, otherwise it wouldn't be worth that big of an investment.

@andehpandeh, three goals is multiple, I suppose. Wes was on for 10 minutes and did more than Omari did all game. Jinking past players isn’t that useful if you can’t do anything with the ball afterwards.

@Jugsy how many assists did Edwards get last year? Assume it's more than 3 which is what Hutchinson has got so far? But yes let's play one of our own, worked well in League One so probably should be fine at this level

As regards Hutchinson the comments as to poor option taking would have applied to the young CR7 in his early days at Manchester United. I am not suggesting that he has the same ability level but sometimes young players need time to develop. In the Robson era a number of local young players- Clive Woods , Whymark (who both went onto to be full England internationals) were retained instead of being canned because the club set up meant they got more chances. CR7 was regularly sending in 40 yard daisy cutters in his early days at United yet the faith put in him reaped its own reward.

@ Burosmbuttib, I understand that Omari is in the infancy of his career, hopefully he’ll go onto have a stellar one. I’m of the view that we’re better for him than he is for us - he’s gaining valuable experience in a promotion chasing side, we on the other hand have a player who’s inexperience is costing in the attacking third. I appreciate the gamble of the loan system and often this is the way that what you benefit from in raw talent, you lose in match readiness/ability. Given where we are in the season, that we’ve recently struggled for goals and the chasing pack are virtually on top of us, I feel we can ill-afford to be carrying anyone (lack of better phrase) and when he consistently gives the ball away, takes too many touches or shoots rather than passing to the man in space, someone with a more composed head could be serving us better in those scenarios.

For reference, I’ve never said Omari is a bad player, I totally appreciate his development status, I just feel he’s wasting too many opportunities and someone else (Sarmiento possibly now) could help us more and would have preferred us investing time into our own stock rather than a player that realistically we can’t sign. This is the business end of the season and we can’t afford to miss opportunities.

@ andehpandeh, Kyle Edwards scored 3 and assisted 8 last year.
