Hutchinson, Burgess and Muric Could Add to Caps
Tuesday, 15th Oct 2024 09:50

Omari Hutchinson, Cameron Burgess and Aro Muric could add to their caps today in the final internationals of the break involving Town players.

Central defender Burgess’s Australia are in AFC World Cup third-round qualification action against Japan in Saitama this morning (KO 11.35am).

Burgess was an unused sub in Thursday’s 3-1 victory over China in Adelaide but the 28-year-old has been named in this morning’s team and will be winning his 11th full cap.

The Socceroos are currently second in the group with Japan top with a 100 per cent record with the top two teams going through to the finals and those third and fourth into a fourth stage of qualifying.

Hutchinson looks set to win his second England U21s cap when the Young Lions take on Azerbaijan at Ashton Gate this evening having already qualified for next summer’s European Championship in Slovakia (KO 7.30pm, live on England’s YouTube channel).

The 20-year-old opted to switch his international allegiance back to England over the summer having won two friendly caps for Jamaica’s senior side. Prior to that, he had won England caps at U17 and U19 levels.

Fellow Blue Liam Delap is suspended for tonight’s game having been booked in Friday’s 2-1 win against Ukraine at the Vitality Stadium in which he greatly impressed interim coach Ben Futcher. The 21-year-old striker is understood to have already returned to Town.

Keeper Muric is with the Kosovo squad which is hosting Cyprus in a UEFA Nations League game in Pristina (KO 7.45pm, live on Viaplay International’s YouTube channel).

The 25-year-old, who has won 39 full caps, was an unused sub during Saturday’s 2-1 win in Lithuania with fellow Swiss-born glovesman Amir Saipi, who plays for Lugano, handed his debut having switched allegiance from the country of his birth last month.

Kosovo are second in Group C2 with this evening’s opponents, who they beat 4-0 away last month, third.

It's great to see players picking up international caps, a bit of pride for the club. However im a bit pleased to see that delap is suspended for the next game and is back at town. He is going to have a very heavy workload this autumn!!

Glad when these internationals are over at U21 level and above....personally don't give a monkeys about the Nations League, all another money spinning exercise for UEFA.

I understand that some players in Europe are expressing discontent over the number of games they have to play.

They Shouldn't Gazelle. In the 1970s, players like Brian Talbot played over 70 matches for Arsenal, and nobody complained too much about workload. They got a fraction of what these players earn today.
