McKenna: Burns Injury Not Looking Good Saturday, 25th Jan 2025 18:35 by Russell Claydon Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has said the early signs for winger Wes Burns are ‘not good’, confirming the Welsh international left Anfield on crutches for a scan on a swollen knee.
The 30-year-old was carried off on a stretcher following a lengthy period of treatment that came after a challenge with Cody Gakpo 25 minutes into this afternoon’s contest, which ended 4-1 in the Premier League leaders’ favour.
McKenna said in his post-match press conference: “He’s not good but we’ve got our fingers crossed.
“I’m not exactly sure but it’s something with his knee. It wasn’t an impact, it was a movement.
“The knee's very swollen and he's on crutches. He'll be going for a scan. We hope that it's not as bad as it looks, but it does look like a serious one.”
Burns, who had come back into the Town starting line-up following the 6-0 home defeat to Manchester City last Sunday, was replaced by Ben Johnson.
Meanwhile, McKenna confirmed that left wing-back Leif Davis did not emerge for the second half due to illness.
He said: “He was sick this week. He felt better yesterday and wanted to have a go at it but he felt sick during the game and sick at half-time.”
Jens Cajuste was left out as the Blues continue to manage the Sweden international’s ongoing knee issue.

Hope hes ok but if this is an oppotunity to put hutchinson on the right where he looks so much more effective and someone else at No 10 ( Broadhead perhaps )then so be it

Sadly, not looking good means he is probably out for the season but hopefully not as he works hard to support his defenders. Get well soon Wes.

Best of luck that that scan is good. The optimist in me hopes it's not a season-ender, but the realist thinks maybe we won't see him till September.

Mmmmmm Cajuste knee still a problem and if we stay up we have to buy him. Looks a tidy player but we need players who are fit or it’s another Broadhead and Hirst situation Half the season gone before they can make an impact for us

Not sure this was a game for Davis in the first place when up against Salah who exploited the space behind him on the first game of the season.

All our thoughts with you Wes. Sod the result yesterday, we would not even be playing there without you and the boys from League 1. Can't wait to see you back in an Ipswich shirt and am sure the lads will push even harder for you as much as us fans for rest of the season.

yesterday we have players who ain't up for the fight morsy needs replacing Phillips was awful should send him back Hutchinson for £20 million does nothing and when we are losing head drops and is a waste of space ben Johnson is terrible not good enough for this league how west ham wanted to keep him is beyond me I love delap but his hold up play is woeful all he wants to do is barge people of the ball and give away needless free kicks when hirst came on things got better I'd drop Hutchinson and philogene next week and start Broadhead and the brighton lad least they looked bothered unlike Hutchinson and philogene
