Slot: An Almost Perfect Performance
Sunday, 26th Jan 2025 09:57

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot hailed his team’s display as they beat the Blues 4-1 at Anfield as “almost a perfect performance”.

The Premier League leaders dominated from the off and were 3-0 in front at half-time, adding a fourth after the break with Jacob Greaves pulling one back for Town with a header from debutant sub Julio Enciso’s corner in the final minute.

Slot felt the opening goal coming in the 11th minute, via Dominik Szoboszlai was key to making it such a comfortable afternoon for the Reds, who are now unbeaten in 18 in the Premier League.

“Yeah, that’s mostly because we scored an early goal,” he said. “It’s been a few times now that we played a home game that we conceded a goal in the start of the game, but I think today is the way you want to start the game: we were aggressive, dominant.

“For 85 minutes they have hardly been in our half, I think. It is a counter-attack threat with the wingers they have and with [Liam] Delap but we managed to control that so, so, so well because of the amount of work we have put in.

“In the end, we are all a bit disappointed with conceding [from] a corner – the first one this season – but for 85 minutes it was almost a perfect performance, against a team that goes to such a low block. That’s not always easy then, but the way we did it for 85 minutes was really good.”

That's a fair assessment. Complete domination in all areas but we scored a goal (many others won't) and have come away relatively intact. Much bigger fish to fry.

Liverpool are Premiership Champions elect. To go to Anfield and lose by 3 goals is not a disgrace. Granted, Liverpool made substitutions when the game was won and always looked like they had something else in the locker but Forest lost 5-0 to Bournmouth. Glad we got a goal and at least the travelling fans had something to celebrate, albeit consolation. Wolves and Southampton lost yesterday with Leicester away at Tottenham today. It's basically a race between the bottom four to finish seventeenth and avoid relegation. I honestly believe we will be the most improved team in the second half of the season of the bottom four.

What a great manager. Hope they go on and win the prem. Not many teams can live with that performance.

For me Liverpool are such a great footballing team and a great club, a proper community outfit too. Something for Town to aspire to. Yesterday was no disgrace and I think the goal at the end of the game will have lifted us a little too.

Onwards and hopefully upwards, whatever happens I'm still proud to be a Town fan, we still have much respect in many grounds for our football and our fans.

They should dominate from start to finish, when their squad cost the best part of a billion quid.
Bring back the 70s and 80s,when it was an even playing field.
