Ambrose Loaned Back?
Ambrose Loaned Back?

A number of reports over the weekend claim that Town and Newcastle are keen for Darren Ambrose to return to Portman Road on loan for the rest of the season once his transfer is complete. The midfielder is set for further talks with the Magpies today.

As Town are in administration they are subject to a transfer embargo which covers loans as well as permanent deals. This ban is not normally lifted until the first Football League board meeting after a club comes out of administration, so Town being allowed to take Ambrose would be highly irregular.

Ambrose's agent says his player did not expect to be leaving Town but felt he should talk once he was told a fee had been agreed: "Darren has never planned to leave Ipswich and would love to stay but, as you can understand, when a club like Newcastle shows this sort of interest in you then you should go and talk to them.

"He has been at Ipswich since he was 10 and has a soft spot for them. He is very happy here and would love to finish the season with Ipswich."

Hermann Hreidarsson's move to Portsmouth will be discussed over the next couple of days. Although a fee, thought to be around the £1 million mark, has been agreed, the Icelander has not yet had talks with the Fratton Park club.

It is likely that the money from the deals will go towards covering the club's wage bill whilst they are in administration. Even with a significant number of sales this season Town are probably still paying more than £1 million a month.

It is reported that administrator Deloitte and Touche will not be agreeing to any more immediate sales should the Ambrose and Hreidarsson deals go through before Thursday's Nationwide League transfer deadline.

If Town fail to win promotion through the play-offs then it is likely the summer will see more moves.
