Como Striker Azón Set to Complete Town Loan Switch Thursday, 14th Aug 2025 10:02 Como striker Iván Azón is travelling to England to complete a loan move to the Blues, according to various reports in Spain.
News of the Blues’ interest in the former Spain U21 international first emerged a fortnight ago, a proposed loan move to Valencia having stalled.
The La Liga club still appeared favourites for his signature with the player having stated that was his preferred destination, but negotiations between Serie A Como and the Murciélagos failed to progress.
Town are understood to have offered significantly more for Azón’s services for the season than Valencia or any other club with Getafe and an unnamed Bundesliga side also said to be interested.
According to a number of Spanish sources, the Blues and Como have agreed terms and 22-year-old Azón is on his way to Town today to complete his loan switch.
Como were reported to want a €500,000 (£435,000) loan fee, while the deal is believed to include an obligation to become permanent for €10-€12 million (£8.6 million-£10.3 million) next summer if the Blues are promoted.
The clubs agreeing terms seems likely to have allowed the Blues to give the go-ahead to Nathan Broadhead’s long-awaited switch to Wrexham.
Azón's addition could also see Ali Al-Hamadi depart with Ligue 1 Toulouse understood to be frontrunners for his signature. As previously reported, Luton showed interest but are believed to have moved on with Charlton and Cardiff linked more recently.
Zaragoza-born Azón, who is 5ft 11in tall, started his career with his hometown club Real Zaragoza before moving to Como in January for €2 million (£1.7 million) plus a further €500,000 (£435,000).
He is still to make a competitive debut for Como, in part due to injury last season, but played 45 minutes in Sunday’s 5-0 friendly defeat in Barcelona, having also played a half against Real Betis last Wednesday, scoring a last-minute winner in a 3-2 away win, his fourth pre-season goal.
For Real Zaragoza, he scored 27 goals in 150 appearances, also picking up nine assists.
Azón will become the fourth Spaniard to represent the Blues following Pablo Couñago, Ivan Campo and Sito.

for the people moaning about it being another loan and that we are back to square 1, if we don't get promoted with all these loans, they clearly weren't good enough so we don't have to worry about spending loads on players who weren't good enough. would you rather sign someone permanently and they flop and then have to think about getting rid, or a loan which flops then not having to spend the money on them?

If we had signed ALI on a loan- to- buy deal would anyone be complaining Now? The number of loans are not leaving much room for latest Chelsea youth teamer - Hutchinson V2.0

Tractorboy58. Get ur point about us not apparently being his,1st choice, but let's be honest, Valencia v Ipswich? Not so surprising. But remember, its only been reported he preferred them. We may never know for sure. As for the owners looking to sell? No. Why do we need to jear from them every 5 minutes? Did early on, but thats probably the initial excitement from them, and the need to be visible. Dont think they feel the need to do so as much anymore. Can communicate anything we need to know, through Mark Ashton after all.

A much needed signing. This squad will need time to gel. Let's all give em the positive support they are going to need in the battles ahead. This season is going to be one hell of a scrap for promotion

Is it just me or do other people here not get too excited when we sign a player on loan?

Why all the moaning about loans? We are in the Championship taking players on loan with an agreed option to buy if we get promoted. It makes perfect sense. Loan players who have potential to play in the Prem rather than buying Championship players.

I believe that we are allowed 5 loanees so I suspect one more just for Jaso99! Happy to see that the club is now looking abroad as the players are cheaper than the English market but the fact a lot of them are loans does make me wonder whether McKenna is still perhaps unsure about the foreign market? Anyway hope we get Azon over the line and hopefully he will be available to play ASAP as we seem to have a number of players not fit to play right now

Yet another loan & a bloke who correct me if i'm wrong didn't want to come here a fortnight ago? Time will tell I guess but with all the money that's come in/coming in i'd like to see us signing players permanently who'll be fully committed to the club.

Now we could consider another year for Ashley Young. I was doubtful when we signed him but glad to have been proved wrong.

My view has consistently been that if Al-Hamedi is the answer, we are not asking the right questions. Ali seems a decent lad, but just a fair bit short of a championship class striker. Not a scooby is this new lad is any good, so long as he is an upgrade and gives us options and injury/suspension cover in the goal scoring department

He looks decent, has a touch of Mariner & Pablo about him in the box.

Looking forward to seeing what he can do, not seen much about him but hopefully just as good as our last Spanish striker ;)

Will some of you go back and look at your comments when he said he wasn't coming, compared to what you have said today. I won't name and shame but it's really funny!! Weather vane anyone ;-)

From the video, he looks totally right footed, so no doubt we will play him on the left wing! Seriously, a big change for the lad so I really hope it works. We look seriously short of flair at present. Missing Wes Burns in full flight down the wing. Lack of quality balls into the box from both wings. No mid field general now Morsy has gone. Could be a hard season ahead.

Tractorboy58 we weren’t Hirsts first choice either! Might have nothing to do with the club, could be location amongst many things as to why we werent first choice! If he turns out as good as pablo we will have no complaints! I plan to wait and see before I have an opinion!

Is it wrong to be more excited at the prospect of Al-Hamadi leaving? Nice guy & wish him well, but don't think he's what we need up front.

Mathiemagic , don't worry about the 8m wasted on Muric, we should be far more concerned about the 25m wasted on woeful Jack Clarke who is absolutely;lutely useless and stunts Leif's attacking play getting in the way and losing the ball every time he has it. Tommjyc , a rocking horse would be an upgrade on AAH so let's see if this kid, who looks to have something about him at a much higher level than AAH ever played before joining can be the answer. Fingers crossed

Carberry. Still all the rubbish about them wanting to sell the club. Just think about it? Why would they be looking for more investment, with the aim of getting the club valuation up to £1bn by 2030, if they were looking to sell now? Come, back in 2030 and it may well be the case.

No idea about this guy. Read that he didn’t want to come, only wanted Valencia. Anyway it’s another over the.line hopefully, and think it would be fair to say he’s an upgrade on Al-Hamadi!
Steelmonkey added 11:54 - Aug 14
Hope this really works out, haven’t a clue how good he is but is he a 9 or a 10 and we are going along the well travelled route of bringing in players with an injury history so could be like for like with Broadhead moving on. I still think we need a quality creative central midfielder and I was disappointed when the Hackney deal didn’t materialise, mind you if he played the other night he didn’t do much for Middlesbrough. Interesting times but it’s looks as if we are in for a hard slog of a season. I think it’s going to be a tough one against Southampton on Sunday.
