Where to start? Another disappointing performance. I hate to get on the players and manager's back however it's not good enough. The amount of rotating is not providing an energized and invigorated team performance. McActeer, Nunez and Akpom are not performing well enough to be getting a place in the team. Leif had a crap game and could do with some backup/competition for his position (I'd have replaced him with Azon is full of effort but lacks the final touch, not surprising with his lack of experience. Young slows down the play every time he gets on the ball. Very frustrating. Please choose a best 11 and stick with it.

This was probably the most boring Ipswich Town game I’ve watched this season — and there’s quite some competition for that accolade.

The first few minutes of the game was like a cup tie: it was end to end and it looked like being very open. But things soon changed: Blackburn were quicker to every ball and harried Town’s players when they had possession. This caused Ipswich to make mistakes playing out from the back and meant they were often turned over. Matusiwa nearly gave away another goal with a poor pass out from the back and was lucky not to see a red card after fouling a Blackburn player when he seemed like the last man. Town wanted to play slow, possession-based football but in the first half in particular, Blackburn had way more energy and deserved to go in with at least a goal. It’s testament to Town’s defending (and Blackburn’s finishing) that the half-time score was 0-0.

McKenna made some half time substitutions which worked at first, but Blackburn didn’t tire and then got the goal they deserved. McKenna then threw everything at Blackburn but it took till almost the last kick of the game before Egeli made the breakthrough.

Although Egeli didn’t come on the pitch till the 80th minute, he was Ipswich’s best player, carving out opportunities and creating dangerous crosses. George Hirst was an earlier substitution but did nothing. I think his only contribution is to make sure Ipswich have 11 players on the field. Ashley Young, who started, and Jens Cajuste, who came on as a substitute, injected real quality into the game. I noticed how none of Ashley Young’s throw-ins were intercepted compared to throw-ins from other players, like Leif Davis.

Just like last time Ipswich played here, when the game was abandoned, I think Town got away with one in this match. Although Blackburn didn’t do quite enough to win, Ipswich didn’t deserve the draw either.
