Former Town boss George Burley tipped his old club for promotion to the Premiership next season after they beat his current Derby side 4-1 at a canter.

Burley says he will be pleased if he is proved right: "I said before this game I think they will get promotion next season. They might lose one or two players but they've got a good squad and I would put money on Ipswich going up, I sincerely hope they do."

Sadly for Derby supporters their interim boss doesn't see quite such a rosy future at Pride Park: "I have said all along there is a lot of work to be done, Derby haven't got the same standard of squad as Ipswich, it's as simple as that.

"I came here to do a job and I'm pleased with the way it's gone, but if you leak goals like Derby have all season you are not going to win matches and that was obvious today."

Joe Royle says he knows what he's got to aim for next season: "We have to score more and concede a lot less.

"We have played well and people can see that we have got quality. As one of their players said when he was coming off 'that's the way the game should be played'.

"Jim Magilton ran the game from start to finish, our players reacted to him but theirs never tuned in to him at all."

The Town boss was pleased for Matt Holland, the skipper scoring with what may have been his last touch in a blue shirt: "I was pleased for Matt, it's no secret that this could be his last game but I'm still saying could, I haven't given up hope yet."
