Free transferred goalkeeper Andy Marshall says he is aware of a number of clubs who are interested in him. The former Norwich man was handed a free transfer by Joe Royle on Thursday.

Marshall told the Colchester Evening Gazette that clubs have approached him: "A couple of teams have been interested since the end of last season so it just depends on the right offer coming in.

"The news wasn't really a shock. Things didn't work out for me last season and I'd got vibes this might be on the cards.

"I'm obviously disappointed because no one likes being told they're not wanted anymore.

"But I've just got to take it on the chin and accept it. It's one of those things."

Marshall is a high wage earner at Portman Road and still has a year left on his deal. Despite this it seems he is not keen to remain at Portman Road to see out his contract: "The last thing I need now is to find myself back on the bench.

"If I was with a Premiership club it might be different but right now I'd find that very frustrating.

"Perhaps with that in mind, a fresh challenge wouldn't be a bad thing."

A tabloid recently linked Marshall with a move to Portsmouth where he would more than likely spend most of his time as a substitute.
