![]() Friday, 11th Aug 2000 10:49 Stories in this morning papers claim Town have agreed a fee of £2 million for Hassan Kachloul Southampton's midfielder Moroccan midfielder. Apparently Town met with the former St Etienne star last night to talk terms and he could be a Town player as soon as this afternoon. More when we have it. Town striker David Johnson has claimed Town could grow to be as big as clubs like Aston Villa. The Jamaican born player said: “A year in the Premiership will put us in good stead. I think in a couple of years we could be a massive club. We could be as big as Aston Villa. Hopefully in one or two years we can attract big names to the club. Ipswich Town is in a much better position than Bradford City because we are an hour from London. If you want good foreign stars who want to live in London it will be ideal for us.” Richard Wright says he has put his contract wrangle behind him and is happy with his new deal. The Town 'keeper said of the summer's row: "I never wanted to leave, I was never close to leaving." The man behind the 1995 attempt to oust the Town board Ivan Paul has died at the age of 47. Paul, the nephew of Patrick and John Cobbold and cousin of current board member Philip Hope-Cobbold collapsed whilst playing tennis at Framlingham College and later died in hospital. Interviewed by TWTD at the height of his campaign against what he saw as the mismanagement of the club by John Kerr and his board Paul and his consortium bought enough shares to call an Extraordinary General Meeting where he was defeated by Kerr and his supporters. A contemporary of David Sheepshanks at Eton the Town chairman was said to be shocked by his death: "He was a keen supporter of the club since his boyhood days and we were both devoted to Ipswich Town." Ivan Paul had been living in France for the last four years where he was involved in the wine trade.
