Released Town defender is training with Third Division Cambridge United. The central defender was mentioned in connection with John Taylor's side last month.

Taylor says that he is aware Venus has one or two other clubs interested in him: "I've got Mark Venus coming to train with us and have a look.

"He's got one or two other irons in the fire but he lives in the area and he's a very experienced defender who would do well for us."

Local rivals Peterborough have been linked while George Burley was reported to be keen to take him to Derby, finances permitting. There were also reports suggesting he might go to Hartlepool as assistant boss to Tony Mowbray, however Pools gave the manager's job to former Aberdeen man Neale Cooper.
