Former Town defender Frank Yallop will be unveiled as the new manager of Canada at a press conference on Tuesday. The 39-year-old has decided to leave US side the San Jose Earthquakes after taking them to two MLS titles in two years.

Although his appointment will only officially be announced on Tuesday, Yallop has already commented on the job ahead of him: "I've said all along it's a great honour to even get asked to do the job. So having said that, it's a big job ahead of me.

"It's something I've always wanted to do and it's something I've been pushing to try and do. It feels good at the moment.

"What I've got to do is take what I did at San Jose to breed confidence in the guys.

"And I think that's the main thing. As long as you're organized and you've got some good players - most countries do - it's how you implement it and make sure that they are put in positions to succeed, not out of position or struggling to play well for a team."

Canada are currently 87th in the world between Indonesia and Haiti. Yallop's first match in charge will be a friendly with Barbados, but first he will meet his players at a training camp set for January.

His target will be qualification for the 2006 World Cup with their first competitive game against Belize in June.
