McGreal: Ref Intimidated

Town defender John McGreal felt that referee Iain Williamson was intimidated by Millwall skipper Dennis Wise during the 0-0 draw at the New Den on Saturday. Williamson made a string of poor decisions in the second half, largely against the visitors.

The Blues dominated the first 20 minutes of the match and Wise decided to bring himself into the action.

McGreal felt the referee did OK up to that point: "As soon as Dennis Wise came on the pitch the referee lost the game.

"He has been totally influenced by the player being on the pitch and it showed that by the decisions that went against us. Even little challenges when we were going for the ball he gave them the benefit of the doubt.

"The referee was intimidated by Wise and the other players started getting to him as well.

"We started well but when Wise came on things got changed around. He is an old pro and gets into people's ears and the referee fell for it."

McGreal was the linchpin of a fine second half defensive display, making his second appearance of the season.

The former Tranmere man overcame a minor strain picked up during the week and felt no effects from it during the game.
