Town chairman David Sheepshanks has put himself at the forefront of the movement to retain the transfer system.

Sheepshanks, along with Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein appeared on Football Focus to put their views on the issue which many feel could destroy football as we know it.

Sheepshanks urged fans of both Town and the Gunners to write to their MPs outlining their concerns were the current system scrapped.

He said: "The situation is so serious that if necessary I would urge all football clubs, players and supporters, to unite in a nationwide demonstration of out wish to protect the fundamentals in football. Sport is outside the anti-trust laws in the USA and it should similarly be made an exemmtion from the Treaty of Rome."

However, Sheepshanks's call comes after Mario Monti, the European commissioner for free trade, had said that the EU were not looking to destroy the current transfer system only make the system fairer.

Monti said: "The Commission is open to dialogue and ready to help in any way the working group set up by Fifa, Uefa, the national leagues and the players to find a solution satisfactory to all."

Meanwhile, Town have denied any interest in the DC United youngsters being touted as possible trialists in reports last week. It was being suggested that Bobby Convey and Chris Albright were to spend time with the Blues and Newcastle, however it seems the story had no foundation.

Crazee, the new Town mascot, is proving even more of an embarrassment than expected putting in a pitiful performance at the British Mascot Grand National held at Huntingdon at the weekend.

The winner was Watford's Harry the Hornet with our charger trailing a long, long way behind along with the likes of Bradford's City Gent and Leeds' Ellie the Elephant.
