Gert Transfer Off - For Now!
Gert Transfer Off - For Now!

The proposed transfer of Belgian Internation Gert Verheyen took yet another twist when the player decided not to use the 1978 law mentioned in yesterday's Newsnet. Whilst he is perfectly in his right to use the law to his advantage, he considers it morally wrong to force his club to sell in this way. However, he could not rule out that if another club came in for him in the future and the Brugge board stood in his way once more, he will use whatever is in his power to leave the club.

Should Ipswich come in with an improved offer for the player, the deal may be back on, but David Sheepshanks may consider that this has gone on long enough, and will look elsewhere. It all depends how badly Burley wants Gert Verheyen, and whether there are other players available. It is highly unlikely that we can go through this season without losing the services of Matt Holland, Jim Magilton, or Jermaine Wright through injury or suspension, so we do have to strengthen this area.
