Peters Called Up

Town target Jaime Peters has been called up to the full Canada squad for the first time for their World Cup qualifier with Guatemala in Vancouver next Wednesday. Peters, a 17-year-old right winger, spent last week on trial with the Blues, impressing in appearances for the U18s and the reserves.

Town boss Joe Royle has already said he is keen to sign Peters who was already committed to further trials with Derby and Millwall.

Peters was expected at Derby yesterday, while perhaps significantly, the Lions have signed fellow Canadian youngsters Josh Simpson and Adrian Serioux, who have also received international call-ups for the Guatemala game.

Peters has previously played at U17, U20 and U23 level and was recently called up to a Canada B training camp and ironically played in a B friendly against Millwall.

A spell away with Frank Yallop's squad might give national team skipper Jason De Vos a chance to persuade the youngster to join the Blues.

The winger, highly-rated in his home country, was previously with German side Kaiserslautern but decided against remaining with the Bundesliga club.

Peters is not the only Canadian on trial at Portman Road. Midfielder or striker Cameron Wilson, 18-years-old later this month, has joined his compatriot at Town and did well in the recent reserve friendly against Histon Town in which he scored the third goal in a 5-0 win.

Wilson has been capped at U17 and U20 level by Canada.
