£3m Bid Confirmed

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that the offer to lure Darren Bent away from Portman Road was indeed £3m, but now that the offer has been rejected the London club say they will look elsewhere to bolster their forward line.

"It is not our policy to conduct transfer negotiations in public," Charlton Chief Executive Peter Varney told their official website, "But I can confirm we have had a £3m offer for Darren Bent rejected by Ipswich Town, and as far as we are concerned that is the end of the matter.

"We are now pursuing other options."

It will be interesting to see if they come back with a higher offer and is surprising that Town turned down such a substantial bid which would have eased our financial worries.
