Former Town striker Mich D'Avray has been handed a new position at Australian club the Perth Glory. D'Avray, who played for the Blues between 1979 and 1987, has been given the newly created job of technical manager.

D'Avray has been head coach with the Glory since 2001 and has led them to two NSL Premiership play-off final wins.

His new job means he won't be in control of team selection but will be in overall charge of the club's football operations.

Chief executive officer Jeff Dennis says D'Avray's new role is vital to the club's development: "We see this new position playing a crucially important role for the club going forward, as a large part of it will include local talent identification and development.

"We will now search the globe far and wide for a head coach and Mich will also start approaching local, interstate and international based players to complete the 20 player squad."

D'Avray, 42, started his coaching career in his homeland South Africa in the early nineties, taking charge of the Moroka Swallows, Cape Town Spurs and the national U23 side. He moved to Perth in 1999 as an assistant coach, taking over as head coach two years later.
