![]() Wednesday, 26th Jan 2005 00:36 Recent Town trialist Daryl Murphy has been named the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland Young Player of the Year. The Waterford United striker scored 22 goals during a highly impressive 2004 season. Murphy, an Irish U21 international, had a trial at Portman Road at the beginning of December which was cut short by a groin injury. The 21-year-old is likely to return for a second spell next month. The former Luton Town trainee signed a contract extension until November 2006 with Waterford last week. However, this appears to primarily have been aimed at making sure the Eirecom League club attain a fee for their most highly prized asset.
