Juan In Squad
Monday, 14th Mar 2005 10:57

Town have called midfielder Jimmy Juan into the first team squad for the trip to Cardiff City. Juan, on loan for the rest of the season from Monaco, is in as cover for Jim Magilton, who picked up a calf strain in Saturday's trouncing of Forest.

Frenchman Juan, who has been given the number 19 shirt, has previously played twice for the reserves but suffered a foot injury and has been on the sidelines ever since.

The 21-year-old will be in the bench if Magilton fails to recover, with either Kevin Horlock or Darren Currie taking over from the club captain in central midfield.

Boss Joe Royle told the club site: "Jimmy will be on the bench if Jim Magilton doesn't make it.

"The skipper's got a calf strain. It's not a bad one, but with the game taking place on Tuesday, it doesn't give him much time to recover.

"I would say he's very doubtful at the moment, it's 50/50 at best and he won't be risked.

"Jimmy's not fit enough at the moment to play 90 minutes of football in the first team because he has been out for while with an injury himself, but I don't want to take one of the kids with us because they have a big match on Wednesday in the Youth Cup."

The Town squad are flying to Wales today ahead of Tuesday's game.

Squad: Bent, Couñago, Currie, Davis, De Vos, Horlock, Juan, Kuqi, Magilton, Miller, Naylor, Price, Richards, Scowcroft, Unsworth, Westlake, Wilnis.
