Club Announce New Intake

Town have announced the names of the eight players joining the academy as full-time first-year scholars from next season. TWTD had already revealed the identities of several of the new recruits, including Icelandic pair Óskar Pétursson and Björn Orri Hermannsson.

Pétursson is an Icelandic U17 international goalkeeper who we reported back in March had agreed to sign from his local club Grindavik.

Hermannsson was close to signing at that time and has subsequently agreed to join the Blues from the beginning of the new season. The attacking midfielder has won caps at U15, U16 and U17 level and was previously with local side Fylkir.

Amongst the new intake is local boy Liam Barratt, a striker or attacking midfielder who has been with the academy since 2000.

Striker Tony Boto has been at the club part-time for even longer, having first been involved at U11 level in 1999.

Central midfielder Oliver Fenn came to the club as an U9 in 1998. Previously a striker, Fenn has converted into a holding midfielder and is described as a decent passer of the ball.

Frontman Kieran Leabon is perhaps the most familiar name amongst the new players, having been involved in U18 and reserve team games this season. The former Stowmarket Youth Football Club player first came to the academy in 2001 as an U13.

Ian Nimmo is a central midfielder who also plays at centre-half. Who hails from Bo'ness near Falkirk in Scotland.

TWTD reported back in December that Harlow-born midfielder or full-back Luke Webster had been offered an academy scholarship by the Blues. Webster has been with Town since 1998. Like Leabon, Webster has been involved with the reserves squad this season.
