![]() Friday, 20th May 2005 02:16 Cardiff City have released former Blue Gary Croft. The 31-year-old full-back has spent most of this season out of action with a knee injury. Croft, a member of Town's 2000 promotion side, says last season was a bit of a disaster for him: "I am disappointed - but I'm disappointed with the entire year. "I've got a lot to offer, but the injury prevented me from doing that. My gut feeling was I might be offered a month-to-month contract because that's what the gaffer [Lennie Lawrence] said he wanted to do. "So, when I went in to speak to him, that's what I was hoping to get. But he told me the board had decided they didn't want to do that. "Everyone knows the financial problems at Cardiff, and the board say they can't afford to pay players who aren't fully fit." However, Croft may still be able to win himself a new deal: "I'm paid until the end of July and the gaffer wants me to come back that month. He said he will offer me a one-month contract if I can prove my fitness. "Then he will make a decision whether to keep me before the transfer window closes. If I do that, then he will give me a year."
