New Town signing Alun Armstrong says he is bursting with goals and says he is more like Richard Naylor than any other Town striker.

The former Middlesbrough man said: "I'm not someone with a bag of tricks but I quite simply like to get at people and score goals - that is what I hope to do here.

The new Town number 34 will travel to the North-West for the games with Liverpool and Manchester City, although he won't be involved at Maine Road. Armstrong's only full appearance for Boro this season was against Macclesfield in the Worthington Cup and he is therefore cup-tied. He is likely to be on the bench Sunday.

It is being emphasised by the club that Armstrong's signing does not mean another striker is going to leave. Town manager George Burley said: "It is a case of strengthening the squad. Once Richard Naylor was out injured it leaves us fairly short.

"People seem to forget that James Scowcroft can play in midfield as well and we don't have a big squad when it comes to the midfield either."

Burley has praised another of his strikers. The Blues manager said that top scorer Marcus Stewart could well be up challenging for an England spot: "Emile Heskey is on fire at the moment, but Marcus has scored nine goals and you can't take that away from him. All players can do is play well and score goals in the Premiership and they will get noticed."

Two trialists have left Town after short spells Iranian midfield star Hamed Kavianpour has moved on, but the Blues are to carry on looking at him. Iranians are starting to appear in the top leagues and Kavianpour is up with the very best of them and is reported to have a lethal shot.

Also on his way is Matt Turner, the winger who played a half for the reserves at Derby on Tuesday. Town have told him to get himself fitter before they will look at him again.

Turner left Nottingham Forest after falliing out with the management. The 18-year-old was said to have made an impression at Pride Park.
