Peters in Gold Cup Squad

Jaime Peters has been named in the full Canada squad for a training camp in Vancouver and July's CONCACAF Gold Cup. Frank Yallop's Canada side take on hosts the US, Costa Rica and Cuba in the group stages of the North American competition.

Canada play a home friendly with Honduras on July 2nd, a day before they make their way to Seattle for the tournament.

Former Blue Yallop says he has picked a squad aimed at World Cup qualification in 2010: "We're trying to get to the point when our young guys, come World Cup qualifying time, have got 20 caps under their belt.

"This is a good tournament to blood some youngsters and give them a chance. Yes, I want to win the tournament and no, I'm not going to worry about it if we don't. I just want to perform well, get some good games in, try and get as far as we can in the competition."

The tournament means that Peters will miss the start of pre-season training which begins on July 4th. The 18-year-old, who has already won seven senior caps, is set to formally sign for Town when he returns to Portman Road, presumably after Canada's exit from the competition.

Canada won their first and only Gold Cup in 2000, Town defender Jason De Vos skippering the side and scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 final victory over Colombia. Ex-Blue Craig Forrest was in goal and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
