![]() Wednesday, 29th Jun 2005 10:21 Preston North End are interested in signing former Blue James Scowcroft, according to a source close to the player. Yesterday the Lancashire press claimed Burnley were favourites to sign the 29-year-old frontman but they face opposition from one of their local rivals. Scowcroft, who spent the end of the season on loan with the Blues, has been released by Leicester. The former England U21 international joined the Foxes from Town for £3.5 million in the summer of 2001. Elsewhere, former Town manager George Burley has begun talks with Scottish Premier League side Hearts. Ex-Blue Chris Makin could be staying with Derby depite being released at the end of last season. The full-back is in pre-season training with the Rams and new boss Phil Brown says he will be offered a deal if he impresses. Torquay are in talks with Bournemouth about signing former Town academy man Alan Connell.
