![]() Tuesday, 12th Dec 2000 10:50 Middle East sources (I've never written that before!) are suggesting that Hamed Kavianpour could be about to sign for Town. The Iranian midfielder was on trial with Town last week and impressed enough for Town to say that they would monitor his progress. However, a report on PersianFootball.com suggests we are about to go further than that and sign the Perspolis player. Kavianpour, 22, is a regular in the Iranian national side and recently played in the Asian Cup, he would therefore have no problems with work permits. He has been described as a midfielder with a cracking shot. The report says that Perspolis manager 'Mr Abedini' is travelling to England to negotiate. No further details on the location of Town's Cup match with Morecambe this morning. The Morecambe board are reported as still to meet to decide where to play the tie. It seems that the chairman has gone back on his original intention of playing the game at home at all costs with Portman Road now the favourite venue. Lancashire sources are telling us that their board will meet today with three options on the table: Playing the game at Morecambe's Christie Park (depending on the police), playing the game at Ipswich or playing the game at another Lancastrian ground, Preston perhaps. Doug Millward, a member of Sir Alf Ramsey's Town side, has died in the United States aged 69. Millward was a played 156 first team appearances for Town scoring 36 goals. He joined Town in 1955 when he was signed by then manager Scott Duncan. He played his first game in a 3-2 reverse at Carrow Road, the same game that Championship winning keeper Roy Bailey made his debut. He played 35 games in Ramsey's Division Three (South) winning side, but had drifted largely out of the picture before Town won the championship in 1962, playing just three games. A good all-round sportsman Millward played cricket to quite a high standard and was an excellent ten-pin bowler in the USA where he was also a football coach.
