No Bent England Cash
No Bent England Cash

Town will not receive any cash if former striker Darren Bent makes his England debut in Wednesday's friendly against Denmark. It has emerged that the international appearances clause in the deal which took Bent to Charlton in the summer only applies to competitive matches.

Bent joined the Addicks for £2.5 million in June with the deal rising by another £500,000 depending on appearances with Charlton and England. Town will also receive a percentage if Bent moves on from the Valley.

Boss Joe Royle says the Blues will not receive a much-needed cash injection should Bent make his full international bow this week: "An extra payment for Darren would only come if he plays in a competitive game for England. This game is not but it is a step closer."

Bent was called up on Sunday after Crystal Palace's Andy Johnson dropped out with a hamstring injury and Alan Smith decided to remain with Manchester United and play for their reserves.
