Boss Joe Royle was unhappy with the way Town over-played on the edge of their own area and allowed Coventry to score what he felt was an undeserved equaliser. The Blues had gone ahead through debutant Gavin Williams who received praise from his new boss.

Royle said: "Yet again we've given the ball away on the edge of our penalty area because we were trying to play 'total football' and from there Coventry got their equaliser.

"Even after that we left Dele Adebola on his own twice to see if he could score, and thank heaven he didn't.

"Defensively, I thought we coped well with Coventry's major attacking asset - which is their height - but two minutes of slack defending cost us.

"Once we begin taking defending seriously again we'll be a force to be reckoned with in this division.

"But on the bright side, it's a fourth game unbeaten and that's helped steady the ship after something of a rough period for us."

Royle feels new man Williams helped add to Town's midfield goal threat: "Tommy Miller scored 15-odd goals for us last season and we've not yet had anyone who looks anywhere near capable of doing that for us this season.

"Since Tommy left we've missed people arriving late in the box from midfield but Gavin Williams got into the box from midfield and scored his goal.

"I thought it was an outstanding debut from the boy and after he'd scored the goal we should have gone on to win the game."

Coventry manager Micky Adams wasn't quite so sure that the points should all have been Town's: "I thought we deserved something out of the game and I think Joe must have been wearing his blue and white blinkers when he said we didn't.

"We hit the post in the first half and showed the right spirit after we went behind because we bounced back with an equaliser.

"The goal we conceded came from a simple ball into the box which should have been dealt with but it was a defensive lapse which cost us.

"In hindsight, Andy Whing should have put the ball out for a corner instead of heading the ball straight back to Ipswich but that's something he'll learn from - and I certainly hope he does.

"But overall I thought Andrew Whing played well today.

"Ipswich had some quality players out there and yet again we see what we can be achieved when a club spends money on players, even though they lost some during the summer.

"There's no money here for me to spend but what the players give me on a consistent basis is plenty of honest endeavour although at times we may be lacking something in the quality department."
