Huddersfield Match Off!
Huddersfield Match Off!
Thursday, 2nd Sep 1999 11:31

Town's game on Saturday (3pm) at Huddersfield has been officially called off by the Football League. Town have three players on international duty now that Matt Holland has been called into the full Ireland squad. Holland had been on standby, but injuries to a number of players, most notably Roy Keane have meant that Mick McCarthy must call on the Town captain.

Town were set to play without Richard Wright, away with the England U21s, whilst Sean Friars is with the Northern Ireland youngsters.

The postponement will come as a relief to many Town fans and mean that Richard Wright can add to his 136 match consecutive run.

Reports this morning claim that former Town manager Bobby Robson has agreed in principle to become the manager of Newcastle United. Robson has been hotly tipped for the Toon job since Ruud Gullit resigned on Saturday. As yet there has been no comment from Newcastle United, although the appointment is likely to be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

The appointment will please Kieron Dyer as presuambly he can share helicopter rides back to Ippo with the former Portman Road God.
