Chairman David Sheepshanks says he may resign if the Blues win promotion back to the Premiership. Sheepshanks, who has held Town's top role since 1995, is currently employed in a two-day-a-week, £70,000-a-year role at Portman Road.

The chairman, a board member since 1987, says he will consider his future should the Blues get back into the top flight: "I'm here to see the club into the Premiership - beyond that I couldn't say. One day it will be time for someone else. We have got a job to do here, which is to het back into the Premiership and I firmly believe we are on the threshold of doing that."

In addition to his role with Town, Sheepshanks has a number of other positions including membership of the FA's main board. He is also on the FIFA Club Task Force, the Ipswich Town EAST board (Town's community trust) and is a motivational speaker, while he has recently become involved in a new football advisory business called Alexander Ross.

The new Town chairman would come from the existing board.
