Town defender Mark Venus has signed a new 1.5 year deal with the Blues. Venus, who missed Saturday's game at Stamford Bridge, has been one of the stars of the season so far at is likely to resume at the heart of defence on Saturday at Sunderland.

Town manager George Burley said of Venus: "Mark has been outstanding for us this season in the Premiership. He has played a big part in our success to date and we are very pleased he has committed himself to extend his contract to 2002."

The player himself said: "I’m delighted to have signed this new contract and look forward to continuing my role in the team’s ongoing success. I’m enjoying my football at the moment more than any at any other time in my career."
