Reports in Scotland are linking the Blues with a move for 19-year-old Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew. The versatile Scottish U21 international is also claimed to be interesting Watford and Reading.

Mulgrew, who spent time on loan at Dundee United last season, is primarily a left-back and so may have been amongst Jim Magilton's alternative targets had Town failed to sign Dan Harding from Leeds, however, the 6ft 2in tall Glaswegian can also play at centre-half and in midfield.

The tabloids north of the border also report that the Blues are weighing-up whether to make a move for Rangers cast-off Bob Malcolm. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Town for several weeks now.

The Blues will make further additions to their squad this week with West Ham's Mark Noble expected to join on a season-long loan and talks still ongoing regarding the permanent signing of Manchester United's Republic of Ireland U21 defender Paul McShane.
