Jewell to Target Holding Midfielder Wed 13th Apr 2011 13:18
Blues boss Paul Jewell says he will look to sign a holding midfielder over the summer to try to take the pressure off his defenders next season. The Town manager feels his backline is often left exposed when opposition sides break, particularly at Portman Road as was the case in last night’s 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough.

Town boss Paul Jewell felt his side’s 3-3 home draw with Middlesbrough could have ended seven each with both sides having plenty of chances in addition to their goals. The Blues manager was less than impressed with his team’s defending, which he thought was uncharacteristically poor, but was pleased with their spirit as they came from 3-1 down.

Grant Leadbitter netted twice, the second a penalty, and Connor Wickham once as the Blues drew 3-3 at home to Middlesbrough. Leadbitter put the Blues in front early on, but two goals in a minute just before the break from Andy Halliday and Scott McDonald saw the visitors into a surprise lead. Boro extended their lead after the restart via Andrew Taylor but Connor Wickham and then Leadbitter from the spot levelled with both teams having opportunities to win it late on.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that he would be interested in bringing loan midfielder Kieron Dyer back to Portman Road in the summer if he was available. The 32-year-old finished his one-month loan back at Town at the weekend and returned to West Ham where his contract is up at the end of the season.
