Former Blue David Johnson has announced his retirement from football due to a back injury. The Nottingham Forest striker, now 30, underwent surgery for the disc problem at the end of last year but has failed to regain full fitness and has been advised to hang up his boots.

Town president Sir Bobby Robson says he is on the mend after the recent surgery to remove a brain tumour. The former England manager expects to be in hospital in the North-East for at least another fortnight.

Dutch defender Fabian Wilnis is confident he'll be OK to take his place at right-back when the Blues face Birmingham at St Andrew's on Saturday. The 36-year-old felt the effects of his recent thigh injury during the second half of last night's 2-1 victory over Coventry and was substituted.

Billy Clarke was Town's supersub for the second time in four days, netting the winner in the 85th minute as the Blues defeated Coventry 2-1 at Portman Road. Earlier in the half Mark Noble had put Town in front prior to Elliott Ward equalising for the visitors.
