Town 1 - 1 Manchester United Tue 22nd Aug 2000 22:24
A display of slick passing and dogged determination saw Town win their first Premiership point of the season in a superb evening’s entertainment at Portman Road. Town more than matched the Champions for long periods of the game after going ahead inside ten minutes.
Mama We're All Crazee Now Tue 22nd Aug 2000 16:36
Town have announced that the replacement for sacked gonk Bluey is to be called, rather depressingly, Crazee. It has been decided that this more wacky name will suit the antics of our new foam-filled hero. David Brooks the club's Community Project Manager said: "The name was decided because the new mascot is going to be a bit more of a rascal. He will identify with all supporters and he is going to visit coaching centres and possibly link up with schools."
Train Delays from London Tue 22nd Aug 2000 15:28
A fatality on the railway at Marks Tey may cause some fans travelling to Portman Road from London delays this afternoon. We know little about the incident itself which occurred this lunchtime. Apparently although the line has now been cleared there are extensive delays and buses are running for parts of the journey.
Johnson for England Tue 22nd Aug 2000 10:39
Town manager George Burley has said that Town striker may still have a chance of making it in an England shirt despite last season's international shenanigans. Johnson was linked with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as it was thought his possession of a British passport despite being born outside the UK meant he was eligible for any of the home countries. This however was found to be untrue as his mother was born in England.
Axeldal Signs for Cambridge Mon 21st Aug 2000 14:51
Jonas Axeldal, released by Town in the summer, has signed non-contract forms with Second Division Cambridge United. The 29-year-old Swede had been on trial at the Abbey Stadium since his move to AGF Aarhus fell apart. The striker, who failed to hit the net in Town's first team, scored two goals for their reserves last week. Axeldal scored frequently for Town's reserves last season, but never made the transition to the senior side.
Burley Pleased Mon 21st Aug 2000 10:27
Town manager George Burley has said he was pleased with Town's performance on Saturday despite the 3-1 defeat: "Over all I was pleased with the performance. I don't think 3-1 reflected the difference between the teams. The team worked very hard but a couple of individual mistakes cost us three points."
