Midfield dynamo Ian Westlake has signed a new contract which will keep him at Portman Road until 2008. Westlake's current deal was up at the end of the season.

Boss Joe Royle has praised the team spirit which has helped take the Blues to the top of the Championship table. Royle says it is not dissimilar to that of the Oldham side he took into the top division and kept there for three seasons in the early nineties.

Town boss Joe Royle said he had considered substituting striker Darren Bent prior to the England U21 scoring the goal which took the Blues to the top of the league. Royle felt his side thoroughly deserved their victory over Paul Jewell's men.

An 89th minute Darren Bent goal gave the Blues a dramatic victory over Wigan and took them ahead of the Latics at the top of the league. After a goalless first half, a stupendous Leighton Baines 40-yarder put the visitors ahead but Richard Naylor and Bent gave the Blues the win they deserved.

Town have signed Arsenal defender Daniel Karbassiyoon on a month's loan. If the paperwork goes through, the 20-year-old American will go into the squad for this evening's top of the table game at home to Wigan.

Town striker Darren Bent says he's not yet sure whether Wigan will be the side which will stand between the Blues and the Championship title. The highly-rated frontman told TWTD that he hopes to stay with Town to continue the campaign after the January transfer window closes.
