Town boss Joe Royle has revealed that midfielder Ian Westlake turned down a place in the England U21 squad to rest himself for league fixtures. Westlake has complained of tiredness in recent weeks and was dropped to the bench for the Plymouth and Coventry games.

Former Town midfielder Martijn Reuser netted the first hat-trick of his Willem II career as his new side beat his former club Vitesse 3-2 in a hard-fought Eredivisie game on Saturday. Reuser joined Town from Vitesse in 2000 for £1 million and left Portman Road on a free transfer in the summer.

An 86th minute own goal from teenage loanee Matt Mills gave the Blues a 2-1 win at Coventry and took them to second in the table, Patrick Suffo having equalised Dean Bowditch's opener shortly beforehand. Despite the fortunate nature of the winning goal, the Blues fully deserved the three points.
