Former Blue Kieron Dyer has decided to end his playing career and has spent the summer taking his first steps into coaching back at Playford Road. The ex-academy player, current sponsor and parent outlined why he is delighted that Town are stepping up to Category One.

Alan Lee scored the only goal of the game as a Town U21 side beat Colchester United 1-0 at Playford Road this afternoon. The former Blues striker, who is back at the club to coach in the academy but has recently been training with Mick McCarthy’s first team squad, netted in the fifth minute.

Boss Mick McCarthy felt 17-year-old right-back Kyle Hammond was one of those who impressed during the second half of Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Notts County. The Ipswich-born second-year scholar has been a regular member of the pre-season first team squad, along with fellow youngsters Amir Berkane, a midfielder who is also a second year, and left-back David October, a first-year professional.
