Keeper Brian Murphy says he is hoping to pick up his first full cap during the two upcoming Republic of Ireland friendlies. Murphy joined up with a training camp in Dublin yesterday with the friendlies against Paraguay and Algeria on May 25th and 28th.

Ipswich Town Community Trust staged their own World Cup at Portman Road on Sunday with teams drawn from various locally-based communities representing the nations competing in South Africa this summer. Slovakia, represented by a team made up of English players, beat the Netherlands, represented by a Bangladeshi side, 3-0 to win the One Community Cup.

Striker Connor Wickham has been named the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for April. The 17-year-old celebrated signing his first professional deal by netting three goals in five games during the month.

David Sheepshanks has been named joint-acting chairman of the FA in the wake of Lord Triesman’s resignation. Sheepshanks is still chairman of the PLC which owns 12.5% of Town and remains a member of the club’s board.

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has backed West Ham’s bid to move to the new Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games. The Hammers hope to take over the stadium, reducing its capacity to 60,000 with athletics, cricket and other sporting and entertainment events also part of their plans.

Trotter in Play-Off Action Fri 14th May 2010 09:11
On-loan midfielder Liam Trotter will be in play-off action with Millwall when they visit Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon (Sky Sports One, noon). The 21-year-old is involved in the League One play-offs for the second year running, having helped Scunthorpe into the Championship last season, coincidentally beating Millwall in the final at Wembley.
