Squad Back at Playford Road Thu 05th Jul 2012 12:00
Town’s players were back at Playford Road for the start of pre-season training this morning. As ever, TWTD’s cameras were there, as were Cheick Kourouma and a trialist keeper, former Swiss international Eldin Jakupović, who was linked with the Blues earlier today.

Former Swiss international keeper Eldin Jakupović is reported to be set to hold talks with the Blues [and subsequently has been spotted at pre-season training]. The 27-year-old, who was close to joining Hull City after a trial at the end of last season before the change of management at the KC Stadium, is a free agent having left Greek side Aris, who were amongst Town’s opponents as they won the 1981 UEFA Cup.

The Town squad will be back at Playford Road this morning for the start of pre-season training. The first day shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to the system with the players having been given individual fitness programmes for the summer months with plenty of players already having spent time back at the club and striker Michael Chopra at a $4,500-a-week health retreat in California.

Town target Luke Chambers has confirmed that he has only been in talks with one club since his Nottingham Forest contract having came to an end last Saturday. Chambers was at Portman Road for talks, a medical and the traditional tour of the stadium and training facilities on Tuesday but is yet to formally agree to join the Blues.

Town have announced the appointment of double Olympic gold medal-winning rower Steve Williams to a consultancy role working with fitness coach Andy Liddell. Williams, 36, won gold in the coxless fours both in Athens in 2004 and at the 2008 Beijing Games.
